JC AB, a highly successful Swedish clothing retailer, decided to exit the German market, following a detailed financial review of its German store portfolio.

To achieve maximum value from the inventory, Gordon Brothers formulated a strategy based on flexibility to minimise the disruption caused by an evolving lease disposal situation.  To achieve this, Gordon Brothers’ multi-talented team revised the logistics operations to enable a quick and efficient transfer of stock between stores, enabling a faster response to customer demand in individual locations.  This delivered maximum sales volumes and also enabled different stores to be closed a number of weeks earlier, or later, than planned, to accommodate the timing of negotiated lease disposals.  This was achieved without adversely affecting the overall sales outcome.  In conjunction with this, Gordon Brothers carefully devised a promotional campaign, within the confines of strict lease covenants on closure sales, to raise customer awareness and drive higher footfall.

Gordon Brothers was able to maintain flexibility throughout the project and, by adapting quickly to changing needs, facilitated a positive outcome between the Client and the Landlords, resulting in a successful exit from Germany for JC AB.

Fredrik Johanson, Retail Manager, JC AB, said, “We were delighted with what Gordon Brothers achieved for us in Germany. The retailing and promotional activity worked extremely well, particularly as some landlords had very strict guidelines which Gordon Brothers had to meet.”
